This is a map showing poverty and locations of Catholic Churches in Chicago. You can see maps of other faith groups, along with businesses, hospitals and universities, at
http://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com
Our aim is that faith leaders create discussion groups, who review the information on the Tutor/Mentor Connection's web site, and on meeting places like this, and begin to think of where, and how, they and members of their congregation can support the growth of volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs operating in different poverty areas of Chicago.
On November 21, 2008 we'll host a
conference at the Field Museum in Chicago and show some of these maps. Our aim is to draw people together to share ideas, and network with each other, so we begin to find ways to collaborate to build the resources needed to operate tutor/mentor programs in many locations.
While people from Brazil and other countries are not able to come to Chicago, they can come to Ning.com where we can talk of ways they can create maps like this to focus attention and resources to youth serving organizations in their own communities.
If you stumble upon this message, please make an effort to pass it on to others. That's the only way groups like this will grow.
